STREET SMART WHEN & HOW TO INVEST    Date: FEB., 2010

Pros are using different ways to spot stock buys when the market is near a high.

                                                                                                   by  Reshma Kapadia

IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE SENSE. When the market were surging last year, the best

stock performers were struggling companies that exceeded Wall Street's low expectations

for them  the investing equivalent of buying a bunch of rotten apples just because they didn't

have any worms. Ironically enough, that means IBM, Johnson & Johnson and other traditional

stalwarts lagged behind, missing out on part of the sharpest rally since the Great Depression.

But a group of savvy pros betting that some of the big names might  finally be ready to shine.

And these pros just might be onto the beginning of a trend. For the first time since last spring, the

Dow Jones Industrial Average has been outperforming the Russell 2000, an index of smaller, riskier

companies. Some analyst say investors will shift their attention to strong, stable companies, particularly

when events like Dubai's and Greece's debt scares remind them that the market's rally can come to a

quick halt. "Before, investors bought just about any type of growth story. Now companies have to put

up or shut up," says Tom Forester, manager of the $101 million Forester Valued fund, who has been adding

Pfizer, Microsoft and other stable companies to his fund.

                             SOME STOCK PICKShttp://nitrosomaticbusinessleads.web.officelive.com/WebSitePageEditor/default.aspx?tabName=design

When the market starts rewarding higher quality companies, these firms may shine.

Pfizer (PFE $18)

Market Value: $147.8 Billion

IBM (IBM $129)

Market Value: $169.9 billion

First Cash Financial Services

(FCFS $21) Market Value: $619 million

JPMorgan Chase (JPM, $41)

Market Value: $162.6 billion

Stock prices as of 12/11/09

Unusual as it might sound, Wall Street often rewards mediocre firms over top-notch ones at the beginning

of an economic recovery. After all, it's those nearly ruined companies that had their market value punished

the most.

Social- media networks are starting to influence all kinds of purchases, from cars to movies tickets. Shoppers sift through Twitter posts for opinions  about gadgets or running shoes. They turn to Kaboodle, a web site for sharing shopping lists, to get gift ideas.

   JIM JUBAK'S: Article Reviews

A Firm Foundation for the Next Boom

Jim Jubak thinks commmodities like molybdenum will get way over sold, and he finds a stock to play their rebound wire building the foundation for the next boom in commodity stocks are factors in huge declines in demand amid tumbling commodity prices over the long term that just aren't going to occur. A patient investor who can put up with the pain of the next six, nine, or 12 Months can now buy a very reasonably priced option on the shares of the strongest commodity producers of the next boom at late 2009 or early 2010.

The economies of the developed world are indeed slowing and the high prices of commodities, especially of oil, have indeed reducded demand. But [demand] is still soaring in the developing world.

Thanks to the current crisis, the world is looking at an even bigger demand-supply gap in the near term once the economies of the US, Japan, and Europe emerge from recession in 2009 or 2010.

The prices of all the base metals, except for copper, have fallen to level that's below the cost of production for all but the most cost efficient producers. Before the cash in commodity prices, Wall Street was calling for molybdenum prices of $32 a pound in 2008 and $ 30 in 2009  Nobody's using that price estimate for molybdenum now. Deutsche Bank, for example, has cut its price estimate for molybdenum to $26 a pound in 2009 and $20 in 2010.

Mr. Jubak the problematic market crisis and severe recession worries, but molybdeum miner Thompson Creek Metals (NYSE. TC) CLOSED [BELOW $7 Tuesday, barely above] the company's book value of $6.49 a share and [below] the company's net asset value, as calculated by RBC  Capital markets of $8.96 a share.

Deutsche Bank has also cut the price to earning multiple it uses to calculate, a target price for the stock to nine times from ten times. And still that results target price of $24 a share a full $17 a share, or nearly 300% above the current market price. Radically cutting the projected 2009 price for molybdenum to $24 a pound and assuming  a very modest price to earnings ratio of eight times, he calculated a $17 a share target price for Dec. 2009. The company is now essentially debt-free and has $63 million in cash on hand.

When to buy and sell in a recessionary market

Start investing now? You've got to be kidding, right?
Not at all. This is a great time to be stating out as an investor. Or to be adding to a portfolio.

Yes, even when the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($INDU) can drop 778 points in a day. And when government bank takeover have wiped out the owners of both stocks and bonds. Ad when financial mainstays like Lehman Bros., Wachovia and Bear Stearns have all but disappeared overnight, and even when stuffing your money in a mattress seems like it's the best alternative.

Because it's not. Money in a mattress or buried in the backyard becomes worthless every day, as inflation eats away at it;s value.
Money in a savings are barely keeping up with inflation. If your savings are barely kepting up with inflation, you're going to have a tough time getting together the money you need for a down payment on a home, your Kid's College tuition or your own retirement.

To earn the returns you'll need to get where you want to go, you'll pretty much have to invest your money. For example, from 1926 to 2007,
Stocks returned an avgerage of 10.4% a year. That's not more than enough to beat inflation, which average 3% a year.

As scary as the financial markets are right now, this is actuallly a very goodtime to put your toe into the water. Remember, with stocks, bonds, real estate or just about any other kind of investment, you want to buy low and sell high. A famous and successful investor like Warren Buffet has put it this way: Buy fear and sell greed. In earlier centuries they phrased it a bit more bluntly: Buy when the Blood runs in the streets.

There's sound logic behind that advice. Buying on fear works. Here are three reasons why:

  1. If you had bought stock on Oct. 20,1987, the day after the Standard & Poor's 500 index ($INX) Crashed by 20.5%, you would have been up 11% in one year and 52% in two years.

  2. If you had bought stocks on Oct. 9, 2002, the day that marked the bottom after the dot-com bubble broke in March 2006, you would have made 33% in a year and 44% in two years.

Feds bailed out China not the US

The Fannie - Freddie rescue will work out great for emerging markets abroad, but it's going to kill us here at home. You might find some relief by investing in a handful of recommended foreign stocks.

               FINANCIAL TIPS

When searching for a low risk investment stratgery carefully evaluate theses steps.

1.Bonding against inflation stick with short-term U.S. Treasury notes or low cost funds such as Vanguard's short-term.

2.Carefully Research your junk bonds, look for short term surges.

3.Go to non-risk investment strategy workshop class sessions.

FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE

Shorting the subprime can be an alternative way for making a large cash flow. Another way is to short the credit default swap.

There are 3 things that go into pricing options: stock price, time cost, and volatilty. The more volatile, the better your chance to quickly make huge gains.

Option traders used to have to wait months for triple digit leveraged gains. Not too bad, I know - but now they're waiting just days, Sometimes mere hours.

These savvy option traders used to master their positions and skyrocket their profits. The profit spewing volatility is off the charts right now. Today's chances to use the swings to gains are as close as 1200% in 6 months.

            Gold many demostrate higher Spikes

There are two things gold bullist should worry about from this point

forward, now that the general community correction is out of the market. Deflation in the strict sense of the term (monetary, hot asset deflation)) or a suddenly brightening economic outlook, both of which, in this wriers opinion, would require a political austerity hardly imaginable these days.
